The National Board of Nutrition Support Certification (NBNSC) is an independent credentialing board established in 1984 by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN).

Are Your Employees Certified?

Nutrition support is a sophisticated practice that requires a multi-disciplinary approach.  Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, physician assistants, and dietitians all contribute their knowledge and experience to the patient's care.  NBNSC has determined the body of knowledge needed to have a basic understanding of nutrition support and has developed a fair and valid means to test applicants.  The Certified Nutrition Support Clinician ® (CNSC®) certification identifies your staff as qualified nutrition support providers. We encourage all facilities and institutions to promote certification to their current staff and to hire certified professionals.

Employers can quickly verify the certification status of their employees.  You need the certification number and last name of the certification holder.  This can be done online here

For those unable to use the online verification, the NBNSC will gladly provide employers with a verification of certification statement.  To do this, the NBNSC must receive a copy of the signed release in which the certified individual gives permission for the NBNSC to release the information to a current or prospective employer. The release statement can be a standard form from the requesting institution or a written statement from the certified individual.  Release statements and verification requests can be emailed to the NBNSC

  • Please include the individual's name and year of certification

  • Include a signed released form

  • All manual verification requests will be processed within 5-7 business days

If the employer does not have signed release, then the online release form can be filled out by the credential holder.
