The symposium will feature an expert panel who will discuss nutritional support for critically ill patients including the importance of consistently measuring energy expenditure to optimize nutrition support, discussion of protein requirements, and the appropriate use of new and emerging parenteral nutrition support products.


  1. Explain how to measure energy expenditure in critically ill patients to determine requirements for energy intake and optimize nutrition support
  2. Discuss protein requirements and optimize nutrition support for patients in varied settings
  3. Compare and contrast newly available and emerging macronutrient parenteral nutrition products, and describe how these new products can aid in improving nutrition therapy for patients in different settings
