Hospira has been in communication with the FDA (and most recently A.S.P.E.N.) regarding a low inventory situation with their MVI Adult product line.  This is a “relative shortage” situation in that Hospira is not at desired inventory levels; not a national outage.  Pediatric MVI is not affected.

BAXTER - INFUVITE Multiple Vitamins for Infusion

Due to competitive backorders, Baxter is allocating Adult Pharmacy Bulk Package and expects to lift allocation in the next month. INFUVITE is currently available in Adult Single Dose, Pediatric Single Dose, and Pediatric Pharmacy Bulk Package formulas.

Practitioners are encouraged to check the FDA Drug Shortages and ASHP www.ashp.org web-sites for on-going information. In cooperation with Hospira and Baxter, A.S.P.E.N.  will be monitoring the issue. For the near future, we suggest that you purchase only as much supply as needed. In the interest of fair allocation, do not stockpile.
