ASPEN24 Travel Grants

ASPEN is pleased to announce the following grants to support conference and travel expenses for 17 ASPEN24 attendees. These grants provide clinicians with educational opportunities to further their knowledge of nutrition support, enhance their skills, and network with colleagues and experts from around the world. Travel grant applications are now closed.


Neonatal Fellowship Grant

This travel grant is designed to provide education and training to four (4) current Neonatal Fellows. This grant will allow recipients a space to network specifically with peers in their area of practice, to grow their knowledge base, collaborate on research opportunities and increase their awareness of ASPEN and how it might support their practice and career.

Grant recipients receive:

  • Four nights lodging at an ASPEN contracted hotel.
  • $500 towards other travel expenses.
  • Complimentary registration fee.
  • Complimentary registration fee for the Physicians Preconference Course.
  • Invitation to the President’s Reception.
  • Recognition at the Medical Practice Section Forum.

To be eligible for the Neonatal Fellowship Grant, applicants must:

  • Be a US-based Neonatal Fellow at time of the annual meeting.
  • Complete the application by December 12, 2023.
  • Agree to prepare a 3–5-minute presentation of their ASPEN conference experience and be willing to be recorded for internal ASPEN use.

HPEN Trailblazer Award

This award supports two outstanding homecare clinicians—nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists—with travel expenses to ASPEN24 of up to $2,000. Reimbursable expenses include ASPEN membership for up to 1 year, conference registration, travel costs, and hotel. 

The HPEN Trailblazer Award was created in recognition of Melinda Parker, Gisela Barnadas, and Marcia Boatwright—pioneer homecare clinicians who left an indelible mark on the industry and enhanced the quality of care for the nutrition support patients they served. 

To be eligible for the HPEN Trailblazer Award, applicants must:

  • Be a clinician (nurse, dietitian, pharmacist) currently practicing in homecare in the United States.
  • Demonstrate excellence in HPEN patient care, including clinical management and patient/caregiver education, and significant contributions to the field of home nutrition support. Activity and leadership in local, regional, or national professional and/or patient advocacy organizations will be strongly considered in grant selection.
  • Attend the ASPEN24 conference in person in Tampa, Florida.

ASPEN membership is not required for consideration.

  • Completed grant application.
  • Current CV.
  • Personal statement as to why the applicant qualifies for this award, including key contributions to quality HPEN patient care, what makes them a trailblazer, and how they have shown innovation in practice.
  • Names of two individuals—either two colleagues OR one colleague and one patient or caregiver—who have agreed to provide endorsements and convincing evidence of the applicant’s contributions and suitability for the award. ASPEN staff will contact the named individuals directly for their endorsements.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Dietitians Grant

ASPEN24 conference and travel expenses of $1,800 will be awarded to five registered dietitians with primary responsibilities in the NICU. Reimbursement funds will be applied to the ASPEN membership fee for first-time members, registration for the Nutrition for the Practicing Pediatric Clinician (NPPC) preconference course, main conference in-person registration, travel costs, and hotel.

To be eligible for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Dietitians Grant, applicants must:

  • Be a registered dietitian with a focus and primary responsibilities in the NICU.
  • Practice in the U.S. or Canada.
  • Be a member of ASPEN. Recipient can use portion of grant money for membership fee.
  • Attend the ASPEN24 conference and NPPC preconference course in person in Tampa, Florida.

To apply, please submit:

  • Completed grant application.
  • Current CV.
  • Statement on the specific area of interest in parenteral nutrition (PN) and enteral nutrition (EN) for the NICU patient population and how attending ASPEN24 will support this interest and advance the applicant’s career in neonatal nutrition.

Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Are early-career RDNs (less than 10 years of specialization in neonatal nutrition).
  • Submitted a scientific abstract to the ASPEN 2024 Nutrition Science & Practice Conference OR are involved in research in their hospital.

Pediatric GI Dietitians Grant

Five registered dietitians whose primary responsibility is pediatric gastrointestinal (peds GI) patients will be supported with $1,800 to attend the ASPEN24 conference. Reimbursement funds will be applied to the ASPEN membership fee for first-time members, registration for the Nutrition for the Practicing Pediatric Clinician (NPPC) preconference course, main conference in-person registration, travel costs, and hotel. 

To be eligible for the Pediatric GI Dietitians Grant, applicants must:

  • Be a registered dietitian with a focus and primary responsibility in working with pediatric gastrointestinal (peds GI) patients.
  • Practice in the U.S. or Canada.
  • Be a member of ASPEN. Recipient can use portion of grant money for membership fee.
  • Attend the ASPEN24 conference and NPPC preconference course in person in Tampa, Florida.

To apply, please submit:

  • Current CV.
  • Statement on a specific interest in pediatric GI and how attending the ASPEN 2024 Nutrition Science & Practice Conference will support this interest and advance the applicant’s career in the pediatric GI nutrition field.

Patricia Anthony Future Leaders Award

The Patricia Anthony Future Leaders Award was established in recognition of the dedication and perseverance during Pat’s multi-faceted career in nutrition support and her efforts to promote the next generation of nutrition support professionals. The Patricia Anthony Future Leaders Award is provided to one (1) student, trainee, or new practitioner member of ASPEN.

The recipient will receive complimentary in-person registration to ASPEN24 and up to $1,500 in travel expenses will be reimbursed. 

To be eligible for the Patricia Anthony Future Leaders Award, applicants must:

  • Be a current member of ASPEN.
  • Complete the application by December 3, 2023.
  • Agree to attend ASPEN24 in person and serve as a Social Media Ambassador during the conference.
  • Agree to write a blog or provide an evaluation after the conference, describing the experience.
