PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Adequate and appropriate nutrition is essential for optimal health and wellness. This program will identify a variety of contemporary nutrition topics ranging from the nutritional management of inflammatory bowel disease, both acutely and chronically, hyperammonemia in critical illness, micronutrient deficiencies associated with bariatric surgery to catheter management in home parenteral nutrition patients.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Identify appropriate fiber usage in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
- Verbalize an understanding of the unique nutritional requirements of the patient experiencing exacerbation of inflammatory bowel disease.
- Describe the sequalae and nutritional management of hyperammonemia in the setting of critical illness.
- Identify the basic principles of various catheter lock usage in home parenteral nutrition patients.
- Verbalize the importance of direct pancreatic function assessment in the nutritional management of children.
- Summarize the micronutrient deficiencies associated with bariatric surgery.
