2022 Coram/CVS Specialty Infusion Services HPEN Trailblazer Travel Grant

About the Grant
This travel grant was created in recognition of several pioneer homecare clinicians who left an indelible mark on the industry and enhanced the quality of care for the nutrition support patients we serve. Throughout their careers, Gisela Barnadas, Marcia Boatwright, and Melinda Parker demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding clinical care to home nutrition support patients. They also demonstrated a passion for furthering the body of knowledge around home nutrition support through their research, education, and colleague mentorship; instilling a purpose of excellence and passion that has inspired countless clinicians to follow in their footsteps. 

Gisela_Barnadas Headshot Gisela Barnadas, MS, RD was committed to providing quality nutrition support to home care patients in the Northern VA/DC region and was an advocate of educating all disciplines about the unique needs of this population. Gisela published important articles that contributed to the industry’s body of knowledge including “Navigating Home Care: Enteral & Parenteral Nutrition (PN)” and “Understanding Medicare Coverage.”

Marcia_Boatwright headshot Marcia Boatwright, RN, CRNI was an expert educator and held certification in infusion therapy nursing, providing education to hundreds of patients transitioning from hospital to home on PN therapy. Marcia positively impacted so many long-term PN consumers lives, helping them preserve their central lines and maintain a high quality of life at home for decades. She also was a Healing Touch practitioner and Reiki Master who used meditation, prayer, Healing Touch, Reiki, as well as traditional nursing techniques to support her patient population.

Melinda_Parker_Headshot Melinda Parker, MS, RD, CNSC was a trailblazer in developing standardized home PN dietitian (RD) orientation and training. She also innovated new opportunities for RDs supporting safe transition of patients to the home setting, and supported Medicare qualification and coverage for HPN therapy. Melinda was a skilled public speaker, author and contributor to ASPEN conference research and sessions including chairing the Home and Alternate Site Care section.   


The Coram CVS Specialty Infusion Services HPEN Trailblazer Travel Grant will be awarded each year to two outstanding homecare clinicians to support conference and travel expenses of up to $2,000 for attendance at ASPEN22. 

Eligibility: to be eligible for the Travel Grant, applicants must:

  • Be a clinician (nurse, dietitian, pharmacist) who is currently practicing in home care in the United States. 
  • Not be Coram clinicians.
  • Be able to attend the ASPEN 2022 Nutrition Science & Practice Conference in Seattle, WA to receive the award.
  • Receive a minimum of 15 points from the activities listed in the application. The total points earned will be considered during the selection process. 
  • Submit your application by December 3, 2021.
  • Provide your current CV.
  • Receive recommendations from two individuals. You must provide the name and contact information of the individuals that have agreed to provide a recommendation. ASPEN will contact the individuals directly to request they complete the provided recommendation form. The recommendations may be from either 2 colleagues or 1 colleague and 1 patient or caregiver.
