Malnutrition Awareness Week 2013
An important step toward effectively treating malnutrition is raising awareness about it, and A.S.P.E.N. has named September 23-27, 2013, “Malnutrition Awareness Week,” packed full of educational programming and resource dissemination to help clinicians understand this often poorly diagnosed condition.

Malnutrition in Hospitalized Patients: Analysis of National Data
Learning Objectives
- Identify the incidence of malnutrition in hospitalized pediatric patients.
- Describe the data concerning the effect malnutrition has on outcomes of hospitalized pediatric patients.
- Understand the limitations of the current data and the ongoing value of the new definition of pediatric malnutrition to guide future studies.
- Identify the extent to which adult malnutrition is coded in a national inpatient sample.
- Recognize the descriptive characteristics associated with ICD-9 adult malnutrition codes in a national inpatient sample.
- Discuss associated research and practice implications.
