Access the A.S.P.E.N. Journals

Your A.S.P.E.N. membership includes subscriptions to the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (JPEN) and Nutrition in Clinical Practice (NCP). These 2 interdisciplinary journals are also indexed by the National Library of Medicine’s MEDLINE. Full-text articles from all issues of NCP and JPEN are available to you online through Sage Journals Online (SJO), giving you free access to the content and journal-related features like RSS feeds.

One great feature of the online journals is the reference links. Any reference in a JPEN or NCP article that is in a journal hosted on SJO is hyperlinked to that reference’s full-text article. Then, any reference in that article that is in a hosted journal will also be hyperlinked—and so on. As an A.S.P.E.N. member, you have access to those articles without a subscription to those journals. This tremendous feature makes your JPEN and NCP subscriptions even more valuable!

Online journal access is offered through SJO

Activating your Sage Journals Online account:

As a member of A.S.P.E.N. there are 2 ways to access JPEN and NCP online:

  1. Via the A.S.P.E.N. website, using your A.S.P.E.N. login information

  2. Via SJO using a separate username and password that you create

Via A.S.P.E.N. website:

Access to A.S.P.E.N. journals via the A.S.P.E.N. website will provide you with generic access to all of the content in the journals. It is an institutional access system and therefore does not recognize you as an individual but as a member of A.S.P.E.N. All other functionality of SJO (content alerts, search alerts, cite track alerts, etc.) is not accessible if you log in as an A.S.P.E.N. member via the A.S.P.E.N. website. To activate this additional functionality, please log in via SJO (instructions below).

Via SJO:

Access to JPEN and NCP via the SJO site will give you full content access to both journals as well as open up access to the alerts and search functionality that are available. If you are a new member or have not yet activated your SJO account, please follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Sage Journals Online Activation Page.

    1. If already on the SJO site click “Sign in”

    2. Click “need to activate” in the sign in box

    3. Click “Activate your editor/society member subscription”

  2. Enter your 10-digit A.S.P.E.N. member number.  (Please include three zeros to the beginning of your existing 7-digit ID number).

  3. Choose American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N) as the association

  4. Follow the steps to set up your user name and password

We suggest that you use the same information for both Sage Journals Online and A.S.P.E.N. to eliminate any confusion.
