A.S.P.E.N. Awards
A.S.P.E.N. recognizes and presents awards to members who have contributed to the field by showcasing exceptional expertise in clinical practice, education and advocacy. The accomplishments of those selected for an award improved the quality and efficacy of the profession and their actions provide a positive example for healthcare professionals. Each award is given annually and recipients are recognized during the President’s Address at Clinical Nutrition Week.
All award nominations are due to A.S.P.E.N. via email (deboraht@aspen.nutr.org) by not later than October 15, 2011.

Distinguished Service Awards
These awards recognize A.S.P.E.N. members who have made exceptional leadership and practice contributions that have furthered the vision and mission of the society over a sustained period of time.
- Distinguished Nutrition Support Dietitian Service Award
- Distinguished Nutrition Support Nurse Service Award
- Distinguished Nutrition Support Pharmacist Service Award
- Distinguished Nutrition Support Physician Service Award
Distinguished Nutrition Support Dietitian, Advanced Clinical Practice Award:
In addition to the service award, the dietetics section of A.S.P.E.N. pays tribute to a dietitian member annually in recognition of his or her outstanding contributions in leadership, practice and advancement of dietitians in the field of nutrition support.
Stanley Serlick Award
This award, sponsored by Hospira, Inc., recognizes a pharmacist who has made significant contributions to improving safe practices for parenteral nutrition through published literature, membership on national committees or task forces and/or presentations at regional and national meetings.
Excellence in Nutrition Support Education
This $1,000 cash award recognizes one nutrition support educator’s excellence in the delivery of professional education. The award is open to A.S.P.E.N. members who have teaching responsibilities in an academic, community, or other supervised training setting.
Lyn Howard Nutrition Support Consumer Advocacy Award
American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) members work directly with patients, families, and/or caregivers who perform admirable activities and heroically advocate for others like themselves and their families. In order to recognize those individuals, an award of appreciation to one patient/family member/caregiver will be given on an annual basis. This A.S.P.E.N. Patient, Family, Caregiver Advocacy Award has been named in honor of an A.S.P.E.N. member and Oley Foundation co-founder, Lyn Howard, MB, FRCP.

Barney Sellers Public Policy Award
Barney Sellers, former A.S.P.E.N. executive director, had a tremendous impact on public policy and advocacy during his 15-year tenure. Specifically, he was instrumental in working with many members to advance our advocacy goals and give A.S.P.E.N. a voice among policy makers in the US. In late 2009, the Board of Directors approved the Barney Sellers Public Policy Award in honor of his work. This award will be given annually at Clinical Nutrition Week to an A.S.P.E.N. member who has significantly contributed to advancing our advocacy goals. This would serve as a sister award to our new Lyn Howard Consumer Advocacy Award. Nominations due by email no later than October 15, 2010.
Criteria for Award:
- Award nominees must be a member of A.S.P.E.N.
- Award nominees must have contributed to A.S.P.E.N.’s advocacy and public policy initiatives.
