Highlighting Research

Research Woman

The American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) is the leading U.S.-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving patient care by advancing the science and practice of nutrition support therapy.

Through the A.S.P.E.N. Rhoads Research Foundation and direct funding, A.S.P.E.N. supports an extensive program dedicated to fostering research related to metabolism and nutrition support therapy.  Researchers are strongly encouraged to submit their work to one of our programs.  Let us help support you with recognition, publication or funding while you contribute to the body of knowledge available to practitioners.

Research Programs

Scientific Abstracts

Researchers from around the world annually present cutting edge research in nutrition and metabolic support at Clinical Nutrition Week either in scientific paper sessions or in the scientific poster exchange.  Accepted abstracts are published in the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.  Abstracts may be submitted between June and September each year.  During the acceptance season, you will find the abstracts link on the Clinical Nutrition Week Website.

Nutrition Practice Posters

Clinicians and researchers providing care and conducting life-saving research present their findings during poster sessions at Clinical Nutrition Week.  Accepted abstracts are published in Nutrition in Clinical Practice. Abstracts may be submitted between June and September each year.  During the acceptance season, you will find the abstracts link on the Clinical Nutrition Week Website.

Awards

Top-scoring abstracts and posters are eligible for a number of awards including travel grants, the prestigious Harry M. VARS Award for scientific abstracts, and designation of distinction.  Mid-career researchers may apply for the Stanley Dudrick Scholar Award, which recognizes significant research productivity and potential.  A.S.P.E.N. also honors researchers who are recognized internationally for major contributions to the field of nutrition support through selection to present at the Rhoads Research Lecture.

Grants

The A.S.P.E.N. Rhoads Research Foundation funds leading research projects in nutrition and metabolic support.  In 2011, three grants of up to $25,000 for substantial research projects, and two limited-project grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded.  Access the grant instructions and application here
