A.S.P.E.N. Publishes Nutrition Support Patient Education Resource

 

 

March 13, 2008, Silver Spring, MD- The American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) has just released The A.S.P.E.N. Nutrition Support Patient Education Manual for healthcare professionals to assist their patients, their families and caregivers better understand clinicians' verbal explanations concerning nutrition therapy options and procedures. This publication is a compilation of over 200 fact sheets from many prestigious organizations and institutions, and includes a full CD-ROM version from which the user may easily copy or printout patient education brochures to give to their patients.

 

This outstanding tool features materials on topics including: general nutrition, enteral nutrition and access devices, feeding methods, home enteral and parenteral nutrition, medications, care and maintenance of feeding tubes, coping, parenteral nutrition, parenteral access devices and pumps, medicare and medicaid, surgery including gastrointestinal surgery and liver transplant, medical conditions including GI, diets to promote weight gain and maximize protein intake, nutrition considerations for patients with cancer, nutrition in the elderly; nutrition assessment in pediatrics, enteral and parenteral nutrition in pediatrics; home parenteral in pediatric patients.

 

Also featured is an entire section of Spanish language materials on general nutrition, enteral nutrition, home enteral and parenteral, and pediatric enteral and parenteral nutrition. 

 

The Manual contains graphics, tables, menus and charts that are easily understandable for the non-medical population such as patients, their families and their caregivers. This Manual also offers a summary of the programs and contact information for the Oley Foundation, an organization for patients and consumers who depend on or administer nutrition support.
