Practice Sections
Dietetic Practice Section
Purpose: To identify and address the needs and concerns of A.S.P.E.N.’s dietitians and other interested Section members. Fundamental Section activities include working to ensure appropriate third-party reimbursement for professional nutritional care services, providing technical information and professional advice to regulatory agencies and to the public to promote dietitian involvement in monitoring nutrition therapy in all practice settings, and assisting with the development and promulgation of appropriate clinical practice guidelines for dietitians by A.S.P.E.N. Support of nutrition-oriented research and attention to the educational and professional development needs of Section members are also essential functions.

Purpose: To support and encourage physicians interested in clinical nutrition to provide mentorship and teaching opportunities to younger members and to promote the dissemination of information to practicing physicians, thus allowing optimal nutrition care to healthy individuals and patients with malnutrition.
Nutrition Support Nurses Practice Section
Purpose: To provide structure for the discussion of practice, research, and education issues that are relevant to nurses; to advance A.S.P.E.N.’s goals by providing optimal nutrition to patients across a variety of health care settings; to create a forum for discussion of issues pertinent to the profession of nursing; to create a network of nutrition support nurses to provide information to nurses who are not nutrition specialists; to discuss ways to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines as well as across nursing sub-specialty groups.

Purpose: To provide a structure for communication among the members of A.S.P.E.N. who have shared interests and expertise in nutrition support pharmacy practice; to advance A.S.P.E.N.’s strategic plan by promoting optimal use of clinical nutrition for all patients in all settings; to assist in the development of safe and appropriate nutrition practices utilized by health care professionals who are not nutrition specialists.
Special Interest Sections
Drug-Nutrient Interaction Section
Purpose: To provide a forum for the exchange of information dealing with drug-nutrient interactions. This is done through e-mail/listserv contact, through the Section meeting at Clinical Nutrition Week, and by inclusion of appropriate information in programs at the annual conference.
Home and Alternate Site Care Section
Purpose: To provide a structure for communication among all A.S.P.E.N. members who have a shared interest in nutrition support in the home and in, sub-acute and long-term settings; to act as a resource to other health care professionals to provide optimal nutrition support for patients in non-hospital settings; to form a collaboration of alternate site care practitioners in the design and implementation of basic and clinical research studies; and to participate with A.S.P.E.N.'s public policy task force to respond to legislation and regulatory documents addressing alternate site care issues.
Ibero-Latin American Section
Purpose: To disseminate information on nutrition support therapy with the intent of empowering providers with the necessary knowledge to provide better quality patient care for those individuals requiring nutritional support, particularly for Spanish/Portuguese speaking professionals.

Pediatric Section
Purpose: To promote education, research, and networking among professionals interested in providing optimal pediatric nutrition care. This Section is open to all members of all professions interested in pediatric nutrition, as we believe that the multi-disciplinary nature of our Society is a great strength. This Section also represents the interests of pediatric professionals in the planning of the Clinical Congress programs, standing committees and continued development of the certifying exams.

Renal Care Section
Purpose: To promote nutrition knowledge and information for A.S.P.E.N. members and renal practitioners in acute and chronic kidney disease (CKD) settings.
Research Section
Purpose: To enhance A.S.P.E.N. research programs and expand A.S.P.E.N.’s capacity to increase financial support of, stimulate performance of, and facilitate communication of basic, clinical and outcomes research related to clinical nutrition therapies throughout the life cycle.
Purpose: To share information and, provide networking and other interactive opportunities for Veterans Administration employees who work in nutrition support, particularly members of nutrition support teams.
