To be considered for FASPEN designation, an applicant must have been a member of ASPEN for at least 5 years and be a current member of ASPEN. (ASPEN membership must be consecutive.) Sitting ASPEN Board members are not eligible.
ASPEN members who meet the required minimum number of points (15) in the categories below will be reviewed for Fellowship by the Fellows Selection Committee. Final approval of the proposed list of Fellows is the responsibility of the ASPEN Board of Directors.

Publish articles in JPEN or NCP: 2 points per article for first and last authors
Serve as Editor-in-Chief of an ASPEN publication: 4 points per publication
Serve as an author of an ASPEN publication: 1 point per publication
Serve as an author of an ASPEN guideline or standard: 1 point per publication for first and last authors
Receive an ASPEN award: 3 points per award
Receive an ARRF grant: 2 points
Years of ASPEN membership beyond 15 years: 1 point per year.
Contributions to the clinical nutrition community (includes both the past and present): (5 points maximum)
Participate as an oral presenter at another nutrition conference: 1 point per presentation
Publish clinical nutrition articles in other peer-reviewed journals: 1 point per article for first and last authors
Publish clinical nutrition articles in newsletters or other publications: 1 point per article for first and last authors
Teach clinical nutrition in an accredited program: 1 point per year
Participate in a federally-funded or foundation-funded research grant related to nutrition support: 1 for being a co-investigator or key personnel; 2 points for being the primary investigator
Documented advocacy efforts related to nutrition support: 1 point for each activity.
Education and Certification: (3 points maximum)
Advanced degree: 1 point per degree
Certification specific to nutrition support: 2 point per certification
