Greetings from the President

Hello OSPEN Members,

Happy New Year!  It’s hard to believe that we have already welcomed in a new year.  I hope that 2009 was everything you wanted it to be, and that this year will be even more promising. A new OSPEN Board was elected into office at the end of last year.  Our immediate-past President, Neha Parekh, did an outstanding job and I would personally like to thank her for her dedication and efforts in making the last year and a half another success.  Her leadership and countless hours put forth will be a tough act to follow; “Thank You” Neha.

Along with a new OSPEN Board, some committee hands changed place and they are already busy planning our annual spring conference.  This year’s conference will once again be held at The Ohio State University.  The conference promises to have cutting edge topics in nutrition, including the role of Vitamin D, presented by Dr. Holick, PhD, MD and a presentation by ASPEN’s current Vice President Jay Mirtallo MS, RPh, BCNSP, FASHP.  Look for more information to follow in upcoming emails.

Can’t wait until spring to get the latest nutrition information and start networking with other professionals in nutrition?  Then consider attending Clinical Nutrition Week in Las Vegas, Nevada.  CNW will be held February 8 – 12th, and is packed with a variety of topics in clinical nutrition, nutrition support, and research.  An exciting change this year is the virtual conference offered to those that can’t attend the conferences in person.  To check out the details and see a demo, visit www.nutritioncare.org/cnw.

A new and exciting year has just begun.  And I am truly honored to serve as this year’s OSPEN President.  OSPEN is not only one of the top ASPEN chapters, but it is also home to past, present and future ASPEN Board members.   If you would be interested in becoming more involved with OSPEN, our upcoming events and interact with other health care professionals, please email me at galg4@aol.com or gina.brittain@stelizabeth.com.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as OSPEN’s 2010 President.

Sincerely,

Gina Brittain, R.D., L.D.
