Biographical Sketch For Dr. Aranda-Michel - Chapter President
Jaime Aranda-Michel, MD is a board certified in gastroenterology, nutrition, Hepatology and transplantation.
He completed his Internal Medicine Training at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and in Gastroenterology and Liver Transplantation at the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Aranda-Michel further specialized by completing a Clinical Nutrition Fellowship at the University of Alabama in 1996.
Dr. Aranda-Michel currently serves as a Consultant in the Division of Gastroenterology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, where he is also appointed Associate Professor of Medicine and Medical Director for the Nutrition Department. He is active in multiple professional societies and has served as President of the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists and Board Member of the American Gastroeterological Association (AGA) and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD).
Dr. Aranda-Michel has lectured on the national and international level on liver disease, liver transplant
management, and nutritional therapy for the patient with liver disease.
Biographical Sketch for J. Totty Johnson, RPh, CPh, BCPS,BCNSP – President-Elect
John Totty Johnson, Jr. graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1974. At Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, he completed a two year ASHP accredited Residency in Hospital Pharmacy Administration. His professional experience has included Director of Pharmacy at two hospitals, Pharmacy Manager at a home healthcare organization, Consultant Pharmacist for several healthcare facilities, and recent committee member within the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Mr. Johnson received his Board Certification in Nutritional Support in 1992, and Pharmacotherapy in 2010.
Totty is currently employed as a clinical pharmacist in critical care at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. His responsibilities include precepting a critical care rotation for pharmacy residents and a rotation for students within the Pharmacy Practice Experiential programs.
Biographical Sketch for Maria Sheridan, PharmD - Past President
Maria Sheridan graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 2006. She went on to complete a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida in 2007.
Maria has served as the Nutrition Support Pharmacists at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville since 2007, where she is also appointed as Instructor of Pharmacy, College of Medicine. Her responsibilities include precepting the Nutrition Support Rotation for pharmacy residents in the Mayo School of Health Sciences and the Nutrition Curriculum for Medical Residents and Gastroenterology and Endocrinology Fellows in the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. She has lectured at local and state professional meetings on Parenteral Nutrition Support topics. Maria has also served as Chair of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy GI/Liver/Nutrition Practice and Research Network and President-Elect of the Florida Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
Biographical Sketch for Lisa Johnson - Treasurer
Lisa R. Johnson, RD, LD/N received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Food and Nutrition from Florida State University and her graduate work was completed at the University of Southern Mississippi. She began her career in dietetics in the clinical nutrition setting at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL working with cardiac, diabetic and ICU patients. In 1998, Lisa turned her focus toward nutrition support with emphasis on TPN and tube feeding management
Lisa joined the Coram Nutrition Support Team in 2000, specializing in the management of home nutrition support consumers. In this role she is proficient in transitioning patients from the acute care setting to the home care setting as well as successfully initiating TPN in the home, thus preventing the need for costly hospitalizations. She works with pediatric to adult populations alike alongside their physicians to insure consumers are meeting their nutritional goals. In addition, Lisa is responsible for obtaining the specific documentation required by Medicare for coverage of home TPN.
Biographical Sketch for Sarah Cruz, RD, CNSC – Secretary
Sarah Cruz graduated from the University of Florida in 2006 with a B.S. in Food and Human Nutrition. Completed her Dietetic Internship at Cornell University in 2007. Currently working as a Clinical Dietitian at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville and Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida. She served on ASPEN’s Public Relations Committee from 2009-2010 and is also a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Gainesville District Dietetic Association, and Dietitians in Nutrition Support Practice Group.
Biographical Sketch for Thomas G. Baumgartner, PharmD
Dr. Thomas G. Baumgartner is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist on the Total Parenteral Nutrition/Metabolic Support Consult Service (at University of Florida & Shands HealthCare) and the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the College of Medicine at the University of Florida. He is also Clinical Professor at four Colleges (Pharmacy, Medicine, Dentistry, and Nursing) at the University of Florida. Baumgartner received his Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of the Pacific (Cum Laude), Masters in Education from Stetson University and B.S./B.Ph. from Rutgers College of Pharmacy.
Honors have included the highest award given by the Florida Society of Health Systems Pharmacists (FSHP) "Health-System Pharmacist of the Year", the FSHP "Meritorious Service Award" and the FSHP "Distinquished Service Award". Editorial honors have included more than a decade as Editor-in-Chief of the Florida Journal of Health-Systems Pharmacy and more than three decades as Editor-in-Chief of the Florida Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (FSPEN) publications. He is also past President of the American Society for Nutrition Support Services and has served three terms as President of FSPEN, where he recently received a lifetime Service Award. In addition to his stellar career in Clinical Nutrition/ Clinical Pharmacy (more than 100 publications, dozens of handbooks/textbooks), he has been Director of Pharmacy and Deputy Hospital Administrator at two hospitals.
Most recently, Baumgartner was invited to the distinguished National Academy of Practice in Pharmacy (50 US Pharmacists), an organization of interdisciplinary health care individuals who provide advice to Congress and the Executive branch of the United States government.
Biographical Sketch for Gerald L. Schmidt, PharmD., BCNSP
Dr. Schmidt graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy with a PharmD. Degree in 1983. He then completed an ASHP accredited residency at the University Of Michigan Hospitals and Clinics and an ASHP Research and Education Foundation Fellowship in Nutritional Support at Shands in Gainesville, FL. Gerald received his Board Certification in Nutritional Support in 1992.
Dr. Schmidt has been a Pharmacy Nutrition Specialist at Shands Jacksonville since 1985. Gerald has been active on local, state and national level in the area of nutritional support. He served as president of the Northeast Florida Society of Health Care Pharmacists in 1993 and as president of the Florida Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in 2000-2001. Dr. Schmidt has numerous publications in peer review journals in the area of nutritional support. Gerald speaks regularly at the state and local level on topics relating to nutritional therapy.
Bio For Ron Stone – Director of Education
Ron Stone is currently employed at Mayo Clinic Florida as Assistant Director of Nutrition. Ron received an appointment as an Assistant Professor of Nutrition, Mayo College of Medicine in 2008. In 2010 Ron earned the first Mayo Clinic Graduate Career Achievement Award in the Mayo School for Health Sciences. In 2011 Ron earned a Quality Fellow Distinction for his work in Lean Six Sigma Management as both a project lead and project coach designing more efficient EMR documentation. He has served as Past President and is on the Board of Directors with FSPEN (Florida Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition). Ron has done numerous national and state level presentations on topics including prostate cancer, bariatric surgery and obesity. Recently, Ron has switched his focus to nutrition screening, malnutrition assessment and reimbursement /quality management /efficiency in dietetics practice where he is actively writing and conducting research.
