Dr Déry graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada in 1978. During her residency, she specialized in preventive medicne and public health as well as in nutrition and metabolism.
Dr. Déry is currently Chief Executive Officer and Scientific Director of AETMIS, the Agence d'évaluation des technologies et des modes d'intervention en santé, where she supervises a team of some 40 researchers and information experts. Dr Déry is affiliated with the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) (Department of Preventive Medicine) and the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Montréal (CHUM) (Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health).
Dr Déry held the position of Chief of the Cardiovascular Health Unit at the Community Health Department in Laval (Quebec) first, and later at the Montreal Public Health Directorate where she was also Chief of the Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity Unit. She has been a member of the Quebec Institut national de santé publique, serving as consulting physician with the Systèmes de soins et services division (chronic disease section).
Since 1983, Dr. Déry has also served as clinician in preventive cardiology, nutrition and metabolism at the Centre pédiatrique de Laval and since 1988 has pursued an academic career at the University of Montréal, where she is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine.
Dr. Déry received the Coeur Québec Or from the Québec Heart and Stroke Foundation for her contribution to advancements in the prevention of heart disease. In June 2000, she received the award for best professor in Community Health Residency and, in June 2001, the award for best professor from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal.
