He has also developed significant expertise in the targeted use of both nutritional and botanical supplements tailored to the specific needs of each patient.
Dr. Inkeles is a graduate of the U.C.L.A. School of Public Health where he received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in nutrition. He received his M.D. degree in 1979 from the Loyola University of Chicago – Stritch School of Medicine. After completing his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, Dr. Inkeles completed a fellowship in Clinical Nutrition and Lipid Metabolism at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. He subsequently became certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists and is now one of only several hundred physicians in the country to be dual board certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition.
After completing his clinical training Dr. Inkeles, having been strongly influenced by the early work of Nathan Pritikin, joined the medical staff of the Pritikin Longevity Center in Santa Monica, California in 1983 where he also served as Director of Clinical Nutrition.
As a member of the clinical faculty of the David Geffen-U.C.L.A. School of Medicine since 1988, Dr. Inkeles volunteers his time as an attending physician to provide clinical teaching and supervision to medical students and internal medicine residents on the application of therapeutic nutrition in an internal medicine practice setting. He currently serves at U.C.L.A. as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine.
As a practitioner, Dr. Inkeles enjoys a close, unharried working relationship with his patients. Using his diagnostic skills, he thoroughly educates his patients on the status of their health. In his treatment plan, Dr. Inkeles integrates standard-of-care medical therapeutics with the selected use of evidence-based nutrional and botanical therapies to achieve the best possible clinical outcomes for his patients.
Since 1982, Dr. Inkeles has lectured to both medical professional audiences and local community groups on the topics of cholesterol and coronary heart disease, diet and diabetes, the role of nutrition in cancer prevention and the clinical use of micronutrient and botanical supplementation in medical practice.
