Graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School. Residency and chief residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Medical College of Virginia. Currently the Director of the Section of Nutrition of the Digestive Disease Center at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Medical Director of the Dietetic Internship Program and the Medical Student Nutrition Education Program at MUSC. Chairman of the Nutrition Committee and the Nutrition Support Team at MUSC. Multiple ongoing clinical trials in both enteral and parenteral nutrition. Active member of the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Gastroenterological Association.
