I graduated from MSU-College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992. I completed my residency in Internal Medicine from William Beaumont Hospital in 1996 and did my Chief Residency 1996-97.
I have been an academic clinician since and am frustrated with the consistent failures in treating obese patients. In my 8 years of clinical experiences the numbers and complications linked to obesity grow with no options in site. Lifestyle changes and medications only lead to disappointing results. The drastic decision for radical surgery seems to be are only option-will we look back at this as vulgar and extreme? Research into viruses, genetics and hormonal influences is impairative in order to conquer this intricate and fascinating epidemic.
